KK Wind Solutions has designed and developed a new state-of-the-art converter specifically for the Power-to-X (PtX) market.
KK Wind Solutions has a proven track record of manufacturing converters and control solutions for Wind Turbine OEMs. In early 2020, it started developing a converter for Electrolyzer OEMs in the PtX industry. The new PtX converter technology is built in collaboration with the Stiesdal Hydrogen team.
This state-of-the-art PtX converter enables cost-optimisation by lowering CAPEX and reducing OPEX through cost-efficient manufacturing and increased power efficiency. It represents a lean, integrated design which can deliver high efficiency and offers grid adjustments for any market or application, supporting the journey for Electrolyzer OEMs to lower the levelized cost of hydrogen.
KK Wind Solutions is now starting serial production of the new PtX converter, and we are expanding capabilities in power conversion to gain competencies in advanced converter and control technology.
Agile collaboration with Stiesdal Hydrogen
“We have an excellent collaboration with Stiesdal. Our deep expertise in the wind industry solutions and converter/control solutions is now accelerating, building on our recent acquisitions,” says Uffe Vinther-Schou, Chief Commercial Officer at KK Wind Solutions.
For Stiesdal Hydrogen, it was important to find an agile and easy-to-work-with partner with state-of-the-art converter and control technology for the company’s innovative alkaline electrolyser. Stiesdal Hydrogen is aiming to aggressively drive down the cost of alkaline electrolysis, and for that, the company needed a partner with deep experience in high-end, high-volume manufacturing.
“We expect a very high demand for green hydrogen for the Power-to-X-market, and partnering with KK Wind Solutions gives us access to first-class technology for our HydroGen Electrolyzer. Vitally, it will also secure the production capacity, which we expect will be one of the deciding factors in the world’s timely transition to clean energy where hydrogen will play a key role,” says Peder Riis Nickelsen, Chief Executive Officer at Stiesdal Hydrogen.
Strengthening our power conversion capabilities
KK Wind Solutions has recently strengthened its capabilities within power conversion by establishing a Power Converter Centre of Excellence focusing on designing, developing and testing power converters and power management systems in Kempen, Germany.
In addition, the recent acquisition of Vestas’ converter and controls division will further enable KK Wind Solutions to extend its global footprint and become a leading converter developer and manufacturer for the wind and PtX industry.
A green future
We are committed to significantly improving the cost and competitiveness of renewable energy. We aspire to achieve this by bringing the most innovative and competitive solutions to the market in the wind and PtX industries.
Green hydrogen production is in its early infancy, but the industry is growing rapidly. The majority of PtX concepts are based on the utilisation of renewable electricity to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis. Hydrogen is an essential step required to turn renewable electricity into liquid fuels, so the demand for green and low-cost hydrogen production is likely to increase over the coming years. Keeping the potential future demand in mind, KK Wind Solutions continues to develop modular and standardised solutions that allow customer-specific adaptations.
With this new PtX converter, we are excited to accelerate the development of an affordable green future partly powered by green hydrogen.
