At Windergy India 2017, we were given the opportunity to give a talk on grid stability enhancement by LVRT retrofitting existing wind and solar power plants.
The abstract was prepared by former KK employee/PhD, Dr. Zakir Rather in cooperation with Bjørn Rannestad, System Manager, Converter, Power Engineering and Flemming Abrahamsen, PowerCon and was presented by Kristoffer Qvist Nielsen, Head of Global R&D.
This abstract fits perfectly to the conditions in India, which is emerging as one of the fastest growing renewables markets, where large-scale integration introduces a wide spectrum of grid integration challenges. Old technology fixed-speed wind turbines and small size PV systems do not have inherent capability to adhere with the current strict LVRT regulations required by transmission system operators.
The LVRT technology from KK Wind Solutions will enable wind power plants to supply both active and reactive power into the grid during a low voltage ride-trough and will thus respond to India’s current integration challenges. By use of a simple software update, the solution is prepared to handle additional grid requirements.
KK won the price for the best paper presentation (René Balle, CCO/CTO received the prize on behalf of Kristoffer Qvist Nielsen and the team)
